Wireless Security
Wireless networks are very common in today’s society. Many laptop and desktop computers come pre-installed with wireless cards to enable this access. While there are several benefits that come along with having the ability to remotely access a network, a plethora of security issues exist as well. As wireless connections have become more popular, the risks have become greater for those making using of this service. Hackers have found that wireless networks are fairly simple to penetrate. They have even taken advantage of wireless technology to break into wired networks. Few dangers existed upon the introduction of wireless technology. Since the service wasn’t commonly used in network environments, hackers were not able to capitalize on the new technology. As the service grew to popularity, a number of security risks have evolved in regard to wireless protocols and methods of encryption. Hacking techniques have become more advanced and accessible with widely available tools provided in operating systems such as Windows and Linux. The risks of not practicing adequate wireless security range from network attacks to identity theft. One of the best counters against these crimes is to implement an intrusion detection system.
