Terms that start with W

A system implemented to protect a wireless area network. It provides additional security when combined with the strategies employed by an underlying network.
WAN Security
A computer network that provides service over a broad area. It is able to communicate over various geographical boundaries.
WAN, Wide Area Network
A device that connects other devices to establish a wireless network. The device is usually connected to a wired network.
WAP, Wireless Access Point
A global standard for applications that require wireless communication. The basic principal is to enable access from a mobile device to the internet.
WAP, Wireless Application Protocol
A client program that makes requests throughout the internet. This is done using Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
Web Browser
A DOS attack common in older Windows systems. This type of attack is known for leaving users with the “blue screen of death.”
Winnuke
A practice used to prevent the unauthorized access or damage to a computer operating via wireless networks. It may be applied by an organization or individual.
Wireless Security
A a networked computer that has more capability than a personal computer. It is intended for professional use rather than recreational purposes.
Workstation
A program that replicates itself and distributes copies to the nodes of a computer. This may be done without intervention from the original user.
