TelnetTelnet Telnet is considered to be an underlying TCP/IP protocol used for communicating with remote computers. With Telnet, an administrator or authorized user can gain remote access directly to another computer. On the internet, FTP and HTTP protocols permit users to request specific files and applications from a remote location. While the files can be downloaded, a remote user can not be logged in as the user of that computer. Telnet allows a user to actually log into a remote computer with what ever privileges that may have been given to a particular program or data on that system.
Telenet protocol works through a command system. Command requests can be created to grant permission to users. The result of this type of request would be an invite to log into the computer with a user ID and appropriate password. If the data entered is accepted, an individual would then be logged into that computer like any other regular user.
Telnet is mostly used by software developers or anyone who needs to access specific programs or files from a remote host. |
