Spoof Site

Spoof Site
Spoof sites are designed to mimic a legitimate site. PayPal is one of many genuine services used in this type of scheme. Since PayPal is so trusted and widely used, criminals feel that people will be much more likely to enter their account details on the site. Many spoof sites are easily created. The process could be as simple as copying a legitimate website using a “view source” feature or advanced web scripts. It wouldn’t be difficult at all for an intermediate web designer to build a site that looks similar enough to PayPal. After it is created, criminals typically use the email system to lure victims to the fraudulent site. They will inform a recipient that their account is endanger of being compromised, convincing them to verify their identity by entering sensitive data. This type of scheme is known as phishing. The best way to elude spoof sites is to look for signs of a secure server, and remain cautious when handling unsolicited messages.
