Spam
Spam is one of the most overwhelming issues an internet user will ever endure. It is essentially the abuse of the electronic messaging system to distribute information. Though it typically relates to email, spam can also be applied to other forms of media, such as instant messaging, a search engine, a blog, community forum, via text message, and even through the transmission of a fax. Spam is a very economical method of advertising because its electronic nature calls for no expense beyond the cost for internet service or the email list a spammer may have purchased. While it can be contained, spam is known to continuously flood an inbox even with the use of a blocker or filter application. Another reason spam is so widely abused is because the system is so easy to implement. Many spammers distribute bulk emails through an automated system, allowing them to literally reach thousands of users per day. While it generally isn’t harmful, ridding the web of spam has proven to be more of a challenge than detecting and removing computer viruses.
