RouterRouter Routing is associated with the Network Layer standard of network programming. A router is found at any gateway and each point-of-presence on the web. It is often included in part with a network switch. A router has the ability to create and maintain routing tables, which details available routes and the current conditions. It combines this information with distance and various algorithms to determine the best route for a specific packet.
A router may act as a hardware firewall for many home and business computer users. This is made possible with high-speed connections such as a satellite, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) or cable modems. This may even be the case even when only one computer is being used. It’s been said that routers give a user more reliable protection against intruders than firewall software because IP addresses are not directly exposed to the web. When used in this manner, a router makes it nearly impossible for an outsider to scan ports for exploits.
Router devices are easy to install. They are also reasonably priced and available for wireless and hard-wired networks. |
