Non-repudiationNon-repudiation In digital security, non-repudiation ensures a party that a sender cannot deny the authenticity of their signature on a specific certificate. It helps many online businesses ensure that documents or messages have been truly signed by the individual participating in the transaction.
While non-repudiation makes it easier to ensure data integrity, there have been some questions concerning it’s efficiency. Even with strong hash functions applied, data can still be tampered with during transit, either by way of a phishing scheme or a man in the middle attack. Because of this flaw, data integrity is best assured when the recipient is in possession of the information needed to verify a session.
In legal terms, non-repudiation ensures that a particular party involved in a dispute can not refute the validity of a statement or signature on a contract. This concept can be applied to several areas of transmission such as television and radio, it is most commonly associated with the authentication of signatures. |
