NNTP, Network News Transfer ProtocolNNTP, Network News Transfer Protocol NNTP was introduced in March of 1986 by a number of contributors. It is mainly used for the posting and reading of USENET content. It enables news clients to read articles directly on the server or news server disks. NTTP also transfers content via news servers.
As the internet and LANs (local area networks) became more frequently used, the idea of individuals managing articles on their own computers became more favorable. NNTP supported clients such as newsreader, a program that is able to run on personal computers. When combined with such clients, NNTP provides a means for handling and transferring articles, making the process far more manageable than before.
NTTP servers globally manage the network of collective USENET newsgroups, including the servers of numerous internet service providers. NNTP clients are included as an entity in some of the major web browsers such as the Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. |
