MMC, Microsoft, Management ConsoleMMC, Microsoft, Management Console The Microsoft Management Console is a standard component on several modern Windows operating systems. It provides system administrators and advanced PC users with an extensible interface that is easy to configure and monitor the system. Many of the Windows administrative tools have been included as MMC snap-ins. Snap-ins may also be added by third-party sources using the MMC application programming interface.
MMC is well defined by the Computer Management utility located in the Administrative Tools folder of the system Control Panel. Computer Management consists of a collection of snap-ins such as the Device Manager, Disk Defragmenter, Disk Management, Local Users, Shared Folders, etc. Computer Management can also be used in a LAN, allowing the monitoring and configuration for various machines in a local network.
Other examples of MMC consoles include: the Microsoft Exchange server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Local Security Policy, Windows Services, Performance and the Event Viewer console. |
