Large Scale EmailingLarge Scale Emailing Large scale emailing is usually carried out by the distributed payload of a worm. The worm mostly finds its sources in Windows applications. Contacts can also be found in the folders of a browser cache with certain file extensions. The worm then attaches itself to all emails it finds and begins the large scale emailing procedure when executable files are run.
This type of worm comes to a user in the form of a file attachment, often claiming to be from a Microsoft support team.
Like most viruses, the large scale emailing worm tends to seek out vulnerability in machines. It has been known to flood a mailbox, disrupt an internet connection, or even falter the performance of a computer.
Avoiding this worm is simple. A user should always remain suspicious of unsolicited mail and never open a file attachment they didn’t request. Anti-virus software and a reliable firewall will provide additional protection against large scale emailing. |
