Terms that start with L

An extension of Point-to-Point Protocol. It mainly supports virtual private networks.
L2TP
A group of computing devices in a single environment all linked to a communications network. This enables the devices to interact with one another
LAN
The process of distributing bulk email to a large amount of users. The emails are typically accessed through local address books
Large Scale Emailing
a software protocol designed to enable users to locate resources on a network. LDAP can be effectively used on the internet and corporate intranet systems.
LDAP
A fiber optic or phone connection from a private carrier to the recipient. It is also called a dedicated line
Leased Line
The act of allowing the least amount of permission needed to perform a specific function. It may apply to an individual or application.
Least Privilege
A protocol that enables routers to maintain information concerning routing links within a central location. It then uses this information to create a table of the best available routes.
Link-state Protocol
Components that enable additions to be made to a kernel while the system is running. Often called a kernel extension.
LKM, Loadable Kernel Modules
Records of activity that take place on a computer or server. It may contain errors and other essential information
Log
A partition that was created and resides in an extended partition. Its purpose is to store information in a section of the hard drive.
Logical Partition
The process of verifying identity into a program or server. Process normally consists of a username and password
