JavaScriptJavaScript JavaScript is quite similar to other programming languages in function. This includes Microsoft’s Visual Basic, IBM’s Rexx, Sun’s Tcl, and the Unix-based Perl script. JavaScript and similar languages are generally easier to work with and can be implemented faster than more structured languages such as C and C++. They have also shown to be more suitable for smaller web applications.
JavaScript uses many of the same concepts found in the Java programming language. It’s code can be embedded into HTML pages and easily interpreted by various web browsers. JavaScript also has the ability to run on a server in Microsoft’s ASP (Active Server Pages) before the page is displayed to the visitor requesting it.
In regard to website creation, JavaScript is most commonly used for the following:
To automatically change the formatted date on a web page.
To make a linked web page display in a popup window.
To make an image or text dynamically change as the result of a mouse rollover and other user action. |
