JavaJava The look and feel of Java is similar to that of the C++ language, though it’s a bit easier to use. Java enforces the object-oriented programming model and can be used to build programs that run on a single machine or those that are distributed to clients and servers in a network. It may also be used to create applets for web pages, a process that enables users to interact with a website.
Java is not to be confused with JavaScript, the programming language developed by Navigator. JavaScript is somewhat easier to learn than Java yet lacks a bit of compatibility. Java is mostly regarded as the preferred language because it can run on nearly any operating system without the need for reconfiguration.
Sun Microsystems introduced the Java programing language in 1995. Almost immediately it gave developers many new opportunities and ways to create on the web. Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator both support the language and offer Java virtual machines. Many operating systems have also included Java compilers with their software. |
