IPS

IPS
An intrusion prevention system can be defined as a premeditated approach to secure a network against potential incidents. Similar to an intrusion detection system (IDS), IPS carefully monitors the incoming traffic of a network. Unlike IDS, it has the ability to instantly act on attempted attacks through proper configuration. This is very useful since many exploits can be executed right after an intruder gains access. For instance, an IPS may block a potentially malicious item and its port or IP address, while allowing genuine traffic to run with disruption or delay. A thorough intrusion prevention system will also perform more advanced methods of monitoring and analyzing a network. This may include viewing and acting to patterns of visitors and individual files. IPS may consist of matching up a URL, matching HTTP strings and substrings, TCP analyzation, basic pattern matching, and much more. On an ending note, the intrusion prevention system may actually include any software or practice available to keep hackers from gaining access to a network.
