The status of an infection when more than one researcher identifies it within a one year period. It generally relates to infections spreading at a more rapid rate

The act of a support team responding to a potential threat that has become an incident. Solutions may revolve around one, or numerous events.
Incident Response
This is the process an incident response team endures. It covers stages from detecting an issue to containing it.
Incident Response Cycle
The status of items corrupted by malicious content. The presence of Trojans and worms are examples of a computer that has been infected
Infected
A technique that analyzes data to gain unauthorized knowledge about a specific resource. It is usually done to acquire information about a database or a particular individual.
Inference Attack
A location where settings are stored for booting a computer. It also an area frequently attacked by virus writers.
INI File
A certain condition of an application or operating system. It enables the input of data to manipulate values and corrupt system memory.
Integer Overflow
The assurance that data can only be accessed or modified by authorized parties. It also ensures that data is complete and accurate.
Integrity
A publicly accessible system of interconnected computer networks. It uses the standard IP protocol to transmit data amongst networks.
Internet
A specification for creative internetworking technology. It was approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force as an open standard.
Internet Standard
A private network that shares information amongst its own organization. It functions off of Internet Protocol and other related technologies.
Intranet
The network address of a specific computer. It is reserved for use by a number of internet protocols.
IP Address
the act of hijacking a host’ identity. It also referred to as IP address forgery.
IP Spoofing
describes a method in which data is sent over the internet. In this sense, it refers to how information travels from one computer to another.
IP, Internet Protocol
Short for intrusion prevention system. It is a security procedure that can be preset to take action against a threat.
IPS
a standard protocol for the security of network communication. It may be applied at the network or the packet processing layer.
IPsec, Internet Protocol Security
A real-time, multi-user communication system. Also used in the business world for synchronous conference sessions
IRC, Internet Relay Chat
The process required when a device needs the aid of another component. It may also refer to the process of interrupting bus lines to prompt a signal
IRQ, Interrupt Request
a set of standards for the process of digital transmissions over copper telephone wires and various media. It provides 56 Kbps of bandwidth for a telephone line and 128 Kbps for a line that only uses data.
