Hoax

Hoax
These unsolicited emails may contain the advertisement of pornographic content, get rich quick promises, and other offense or unlawful details. These spam emails are very dangerous because clicking on a link can possibly expose a user to malicious viruses. A hoax may also consist of chain letters describing some catastrophic event or threatening virus. Another purpose of a hoax is to convince a user to forward over personal information. While it can be damaging, a hoax is usually easy to detect. If no name or signature is attached, then there may be a need for concern. Phrases such as, “Forward this to all of your friends!” may also be a sign. Sometimes a hoax will contain all upper case letters or numerous exclamation points. These emails have prompted many spam filters to include more advanced methods of detection. The mission is to help a user understand about how unsolicited email reaches the inbox and what can be done to prevent it.
