HLLP Virus

HLLP Virus
HLLP is the family name for viruses that take on parasitic behavior. This type of virus seeks out executable files on a compromised computer and unloads it’s own files onto them. It can also install dll files that can be downloaded and activated from a remote location. Upon execution, an HLLP virus is able to install itself into numerous directories of an operating system. From there it adds a registry entry, enabling it to be activated following a reboot of the computer. W32/HLLP.Phillis.gu is one of the most popular variants of this virus. Aside from infecting system files, it also looks to spread through network shares by searching for all active computers within a subnet. Once it finds an active machine, this HLLP virus sends a ping request to the network and waits for a response. After receiving the ping response it tries to access any network shares that may exist on that computer. When infecting executable files via a network share, this virus has no limitations of what files it can corrupt.
