Hand-held Device

A hand-held device may come in many types, size and styles. While they often differ in appearance and function, many of them carry similar traits. Characteristics may include a small display size, limited input capability, limited bandwidth and storage space and other limited resources such as memory or processing power. The physical characteristics of a hand-hand device relate to a small size. The display typically yields anywhere from 4 to 10 lines of text - 12 to 20 characters wide. The display may have a basic graphical interface, the case with many game consoles, or just simple text. A hand-held device may or may not consist of an entire keyboard or selection key. Bandwidth and disk space generally becomes an issue because of limitations of a network. The same theory applies to other resources, such as battery life, system memory and processing power. Though many hand-held devices are limited, clear exceptions would be items like a high capacity MP3 player or portable navigation system.
