Hacker is one term that seems to have a double meaning in the world of computers. It gained worldwide attention thanks to movies such as War Games, where the main character was said to be unknowingly “hacking” into the Pentagon’s security system. To cover both sides, a hacker can be considered as an individual who uses their ability for good or bad. One who uses this knowledge in the professional field may be involved in network security or software and hardware programming. One who uses this knowledge to break into systems with the intent of stealing data may or may not be an expert. These individuals often use their ability to gain access to bank accounts and other sensitive information. While there are several rewards, this type of hacker is also susceptible to huge fees and lengthy prison sentences. As the media continues to feed the public warnings about identity theft and other computer crimes, most people a more likely to judge hackers in a negative manner.
