FI, Fast Infoset

FI, Fast Infoset
Fast Infoset or FI, is a markup language used to format web-based documents. It’s specification was first approved in May of 2005 by the ITU (International Telecommunication Union). FI was officially published in March of 2007, designed to be more efficient at serialization than XML. Documents in XML can easily be converted into the FI format without loss of quality or content. FI can also be converted into XML. In general, an FI document is quite similar to a compressed version of an XML document. Unlike XML, Fast Infoset optimizes at the speed in which ASN binary is produced and processed. It also minimizes the size of the file. The FI specification may consist of various components designated for the following: Document information, Document type declaration, Character information, Notation information, Namespace information, Element information, Processing instruction information, Attribute information, Un-expanded entity reference information, Un-parsed entity information, Comment information
