Terms that start with E

A standard process that supports multiple authentication protocols. It may consist of mechanisms such as challenge-response or clear-text passwords.
EAP, Extensible Authentication Protocol
A strategy used to filter electronic traffic. Its purpose is to enhance network security and reduce the probability of hacking attacks.
Egress Filtering
A file frequently used to test the strength of system infections. Test is only recommended to those who understand the risks.
EICAR
A sophisticated routing protocol used in network communication. It was initially developed by Cisco Systems.
EIGRP
The process of including one data structure within others. It is designed to keep the first structure concealed.
Encapsulation
a virus that conceals itself from a scanner by using encrypting techniques. In most cases, this type of infection can only be decrypted by the virus itself.
Encrypted Virus
This refers to schemes that encode plain text into a non-translatable code. The purpose is to ensure privacy from intruders.
Encryption
A component used by security programs. It is primarily responsible for scanning a computer in search of infections
Engine
A solution put in place to manage a security application from a central location. This allows an organization to streamline and enforce solid security processes
EPolicy Orchestrator
It detects and logs errors from an operating system into the corresponding software. This information can be used to analyze problems.
Error Reporting Utility
Short for End User License Agreement. This verifies ownership of the end user to a particular software
EULA
This is an executable file that sends instructions to run a program. Various prefixes identify this type of file
EXE. File
Codes that are generated after an application completes a task. The codes can then be used to analyze patterns of execution or problems.
Exit Codes
The act of using defections or security flaws in an application or system to gain access. Exploitation may include gaining control from a remote location or delivering malicious content.
Exploit
An additional file used by anti-virus software to detect new infections. These files are also created when new variations of an infection have been made public.
