DNS

DNS
DNS initiates the process that allows a user to type a URL into their web browser. After clicking go or pressing return on the keyboard, a computer will instantly redirect a user to that site. The process all initiates from DNSs servers. A server operates special networking programs for various hosts on the web. The software contains a database of networks and features a public IP address. Multiple servers are able to interact by using private network protocol, organized by levels of hierarchy. At the top of this list are root servers. These are responsible for storing a full database of URLs and related IP addresses. The web uses 13 root servers that play a significant role in the process. Controlled by several independent providers, servers are named from the letter “A” to “M.” All of these servers are based in the United States, Japan, UK, and Sweden.
