Data Corruption

Data Corruption
During transit, data corruption may take place for a number of reasons. For example, environmental conditions such as heavy rain and clouds can interfere with data being transmitted via satellite. Wireless networks are also prone to data corruption due to the interference of a device like a microwave oven. Data corrupted during storage is essentially caused in two ways: the failure of hardware or software. The daily wear and tear of regular usage is the cause of hardware failure while software may corrupt data when bugs exist in the source code. When the appropriate mechanisms are set in place, integrity can be maintained in order to prevent data corruption. This is very essential in banking where an error that goes undetected can tremendously effect the balance of an account. Integrity is also important when compressed or encrypted data is being used as a minor error can cause an extensive set of data to be unusable.
