These files come in many different variations, from worms to Trojans, which are all capable of spreading more than 1,000 infections. Many of them are delivered via email, using various subject lines and text in the message while parading as content, such as new articles or special events. They often carry misleading attachments that tempt a user into opening and downloading these files into the registry of their operating system. This type of file often targets the Microsoft Outlook email application where the worm uses its own SMTP engine to distribute the files. It then attempts to copy itself throughout all remote drives of the computer that are mapped locally. Disguised as a Microsoft Security Update, it is usually undetected by any filtering system used by the Outlook program. Threat levels range from low to medium. A high amount of these files could eventually cause considerable damage to a user’s system. Containment and removal of this file can be done safely with ease if detected in enough time.
