Content Spoofing

Content Spoofing
The primary goal of content spoofing is to lure unsuspecting individuals to a phony website. One of the most common forms of this malicious strategy is called phishing. Content spoofing is also used to misrepresent an individual or a particular company. In this scenario, it exploits a trusting relationship between a user and the misrepresented organization. Content spoofing ploys typically originate through spam emails, chat-room sessions, and message forum postings. A malicious person often attempts this act by modifying specific information and links of a respectable company. This is done by gaining access to their server and altering the content. The most damaging type of content spoofing is done with the use of DHTML (dynamic HTML) sources which may include survey forms and login applications. Believing that they are on a legitimate, secure site, a user will enter their personal details, unaware that it is being given to a malicious hacker.
