ConnectionConnection In terms of computer programming and communications in general, a connection is the process of configuring resources that specific objects can be translated and written to. This may include a particular file or database. In most cases, a programmer encodes an OPEN request to a system to ensure that resources such as memory are successfully established. The programmer encodes a CLOSE request when the connection is no longer required, enabling those resources to be returned to the system for the command of other users.
A dial-up connection, often referred to as a switched connection, is a telephonic scheme that is only set up when needed. A dedicated connection, often called a non-switched connection, is a continuous state this is always available, the situation found in a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) or high-speed internet service. A leased line is one rented by a telephone company to provide a dedicated connection amongst two points. |
