There are many advantages of configuration management, one being that a collection of systems can be easily reviewed and managed. This assures that modifications made to one system do not have a negative effect on others. When used in software development, configuration management is often referred to as UCM (unified configuration management). UCM permits developers to keep track of source codes, documentation, changes requested and made, as well as any problems that may occur.
